I'm New

What should I expect at a ‘FORT’ (Fort Des Moines Open Bible) Sunday Morning Service?
Expect to be welcomed in a relaxed atmosphere. Our service lasts for about an hour and a half. Our music is contemporary and guitar/electric keyboard lead. The worship team usually plays two sets of songs. The first set is two songs and the second set is 3-4 songs. The songs are a mix of contemporary and traditional. Between sets our children K-5 are dismissed for Children’s Church. During the second set our Prayer Team is available for those who have special prayer requests. Our Speaking pastors, of which there are three, teach the truth of the Bible in a way that you can understand and relate to the circumstances you face in life everyday. They coordinate their speaking schedules around a 10-12 week series, using multi-media and life simulations to enhance their messages. The next series is entitled "Lessons from Life's Journal."  There is one life's journal and that is the Bible.

What does the ‘FORT’ have for my kids?
We provide a quality nursery for your children in a bright and cheery atmosphere. The ages of our nursery are infants to two years old.

On Sunday we have a kids program, ages 3-5 and K-5 called ‘Special Forces’ that meet in rooms specifically designed for them.

On Monday evenings from 6:30 pm-8:05 pm, exclusively, we have AWANA for ages 3-5 and K-5. We know that as a parent you need to be sure that your children are in a SAFE learning environment and we know that your children are looking for a FUN place to learn. We want to make sure that both of these goals are reached. Our teachers and workers love children and have been screened for your child's safety. Whether it be our Nursery, ‘Special Forces’ or AWANA, your children are a priority with us. We take to heart what Proverbs 22:6 says “Train up a child in the way he/she should go and when he/she is old he/she will not depart from it.”

On Wednesday there are two groups for our older kids that meet at the 'Fort'.  Trek-- grades 6-8 meet 6:45 PM to 8:00 PM and Project 515-- grades 9-12 meet 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  For more details on all of our kids ministries please click on Ministry Teams on the Home Page.

What should I wear?
At the ‘FORT’ we are casual in our dress. You don't need to be concerned with getting dressed up. We're more concerned with helping you follow Christ and bringing Him to people than we are with what you wear. So dress casually and you'll fit right in.

Do you have Sunday School?
No, except for our senior adults. What we do have before our Sunday Morning Service which begins at 10:00 AM is a Fellowship Breakfast for all members of the family. We serve breakfast from 9:00am-9:45 AM. It is a full breakfast and it is FREE! We do accept donations, but it is not expected.

Where are you located?
We are located at 1116 Army Post Road which is on the south side of Des Moines and south side of the road. We sit quite a ways off of Army Post Road so look for the 25’ Cross! Here is a map.

Fellowship

We encourage getting together not only in church, but outside as well.  Many people open their homes to "be about the Father's business."

Breakfast

We serve a full breakfast before our Sunday Morning Service starting at 9:00 am.  You do not have to be there exactly at 9:00 am.  Serving ends at 9:45 am.   The goal is to have great food before the Greatest Food!  Come join us.
